Surface Condition

When Is It Time to Resurface Your Pool?

Pool resurfacing is not only cosmetic. A failing interior can become rough, difficult to maintain, stained, etched, or delaminated. Replacing the interior finish restores comfort and protects the pool shell.

Rough Surface

Sandpaper-like or uncomfortable pool finish.

Permanent Staining

Discoloration that no longer responds to normal cleaning.

Cracks or Delamination

Chipping, hollow areas, surface separation, or visible deterioration.

Aging Finish

An older plaster finish showing widespread wear or chalking.

Finish Selection

Diamond Brite® Colors

Finish color affects the overall water tone of the pool. Appearance also changes with pool depth, sunlight, landscaping, tile, coping, and surrounding materials.

Our Process

Professional Pool Resurfacing From Preparation Through Start-Up

Proper resurfacing requires more than applying a new finish. Existing conditions, preparation, bonding, fittings, application, fill, and start-up all affect the final result.

01. Drain & Initial Evaluation

The pool is safely drained so the interior surface, fittings, penetrations, and visible conditions can be evaluated.

02. Surface Preparation

Unsound or compromised areas discovered during preparation are addressed as needed to create a suitable substrate for the new finish.

03. Fittings & Drain Details

Returns, lights, vacuum ports, drains, and other penetrations are inspected and prepared so the new finish terminates correctly.

04. Bonding Agent

A cementitious bonding system is applied when appropriate to promote adhesion between the prepared substrate and new pool finish.

05. Diamond Brite® Installation

The selected quartz finish is mixed, applied, finished, and exposed using the appropriate installation procedures.

06. Fill & Start-Up

The pool is filled and the new surface begins its curing period. Proper start-up and water balance are critical during this stage.

Exact preparation requirements and corrective work are determined by actual pool conditions and defined in the written proposal.

Resurfacing Cost

What Affects Pool Resurfacing Cost in Miami?

Pool resurfacing is not one-size-fits-all. Price depends on pool dimensions, existing surface condition, access, finish selection, and whether additional renovation work is included.

Pool Size & Depth

Larger pools, deeper profiles, spas, benches, steps, and special features require additional material and labor.

Surface Condition

Hollow areas, delamination, prior repairs, coatings, or deterioration can change preparation requirements.

Tile, Coping & Add-Ons

Waterline tile, coping, mosaics, skimmers, fittings, and other renovation items are priced separately when included.

Access & Logistics

Restricted access, long material runs, drainage restrictions, and difficult working conditions can affect labor and scheduling.

Commercial Requirements

Commercial facilities may require additional coordination, fittings, safety compliance, or documentation.

Final pricing is provided in a written proposal after the project scope is evaluated. Conditions hidden by water or existing finish may require additional review after the pool is drained.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pool Resurfacing FAQs

Lifespan depends on the finish type, water chemistry, and maintenance. Traditional plaster is often shorter, while quartz finishes like Diamond Brite typically last longer when installed correctly and started up with proper water chemistry.

People often use the terms interchangeably. Technically, replastering refers to applying a new plaster-based interior finish. Resurfacing is the broader term that includes plaster, quartz, and other interior finishes.

Diamond Brite is a quartz exposed aggregate finish. Compared with standard plaster, quartz finishes are commonly selected for increased durability and appearance when installed and maintained properly.

Most resurfacing projects take several days for preparation and application, plus time for filling and start-up. The exact timeline depends on pool condition, weather, and any additional renovation work such as tile or coping.

We can start with a few photos, your city, and basic pool dimensions including length, width, shallow depth, and deep depth. If you already have preferred Diamond Brite colors, include those too.
